A Very Soft Cv

What if the change started with us?

We all want to be recruited for who we really are: our human qualities, our soft skills… our essence.

But in reality? Recruitment often comes down to a quick sorting of CVs. This initial step is left to filters, an intern, or an AI that processes 1,000 CVs in seconds to keep may be only 20. Perhaps at that point, a human does step in… but for 980 of those left-behind profiles, it’s already too late.

From there, five candidates might be selected, and sometimes a personality test is added to check for human compatibility. But let’s be honest: by this stage, we’re just confirming what remains after the initial cull.
1000 ▶️ 20 ▶️ 5 ▶️ 1

Among the 980 discarded CVs, how many talents were overlooked? How many candidates could have embodied the company’s values, contributed positively to the team’s well-being, or offered an ideal approach to client relations? How many would have demonstrated empathy, quick learning, adaptability, and essential skills for a future in which your company, too, will need to evolve? Your ideal candidate may check every box today, but what about tomorrow?

These qualities don’t exactly jump off the page at first glance.
It’s said that only 1 in 10 CVs actually makes it to a hiring manager. Do we really believe anyone sifted through the rest to read between the lines?

The Great Overlook of Soft Skills

Before blaming recruiters or the hiring process, let’s ask ourselves: what are we, as candidates, doing to highlight our soft skills — those supposedly essential qualities?

Often, our human skills get tucked away in a corner of the CV, adjusted for the role, drowned under technical experience. We assume that, with all we’ve done, who we are shines through. It’s obvious to us, so it must be obvious to someone else.
Not quite.

The result? It falls flat. And, deep down, even we don’t fully believe it. Too often, genuine qualities that could make all the difference stay hidden.

So what if, this time, we took the lead?

Because let’s be honest: how many CVs truly speak about a candidate’s soft skills with clarity and conviction? Too few. Among the hundreds of profiles seen on LinkedIn, hardly any mention qualities like enthusiasm, active listening, or adaptability. And for CVs without much experience, we tend to forget these traits are often the strongest assets.

Why These Skills Matter?

Soft skills, or soft talents, are the human qualities that enable someone to integrate harmoniously, communicate effectively, motivate, and inspire. They’re the skills that create value within a team: empathy to understand others, communication to connect well, enthusiasm to bring positive energy. These qualities, which technology still struggles to replicate, are becoming increasingly essential for modern human resources.

And yet, when hundreds of CVs go through the automated filters, these skills are erased. Ironically, these human qualities only get evaluated at the end of the process, once it’s too late for the 980 profiles already left behind.
