What does «fairception» mean
expand

The word “fairception” is a combination of the words “fair” and “perception”. It is meant to describe the idea of perceiving something as being sufficiently fair and debiased.

It's born of the idea that many people can't be wrong in acknowledging someone's strengths.

What are soft skills?
expand

There is no single definition of soft skills. If you asked 100 people, you might get 100 different answers. We define soft skills as "non-technical abilities that reflect your capacity for positive interaction, managing your own thoughts, reflections, and emotional responses".

More specifically, soft skills can be generally categorized into three types:

1. Cognitive Soft Skills: these involve mental processes such as critical thinking, creativity, learning abilities, and problem-solving

2. Emotional Soft Skills: these relate to understanding and managing emotions, including empathy, resilience to managing frustration

3. Interpersonal Soft Skills: these relate to interactions with others, including active listening, communication, and teamwork

Is fairception an HR tool?
expand

fairception is an alternative way of describing yourself through the eyes of others. This is not strictly an HR tool and this is not a CV. It is both a personal development and a personal branding tool that creates credible mapping of your personal strengths. It reflects what others think about yourself. But we also aspire to match people and missions.

Is it also a professional matching tool?
expand

Shortly we will match your personality and aspirations with the most relevant professional opportunities based on who you are, what you can do or show great potential for.

The best businesses are increasingly looking for the right personality for the job and are missing huge on personalities when scanning the talent market with expertise alone.

Why are you different from any other personality test tool?
expand

Our approach is empiric and not just self-declarative. It is based on the feedback of many people and how they perceive you, not just how you perceive yourself. We advocate anonymity and spontaneity. We avoid verbatim, favor consistency and correct biaises. Very few solutions provide this option at scale.

Our process is easy to use and is available to everyone.

What languages will we expand to?
expand

fairception was born in France and will very soon be available in English and in French. We expect to add many more languages in the future.

BUILDING MY PROFILE
Do I need to choose my soft skills?
expand

You only have to self-reflect on those soft skills that represent you best. We have carefully selected 20 softs skills among hundreds because any specific combo of these will provide a balanced portrait of any personality.

What about hard skills?
expand

We identify two types of hard skills: “transferrable skills” that apply to many different jobs or sectors and the “Expertises” which are pointy and make you an enthusiast or even a geek.

You will need to choose from a list the transferable skills and state the expertises that best define what you can do. Not everyone will be able to endorse your hard skills but in any case, select them early when you build your fairception profile to maximise endorsements

Because we ultimately aspire to offer opportunities based on who you are and what you can do best you can also select the language you speak, your past experience or your academic background in a very simple way, without social markers.

No sugarcoating, we are not trying to replace your CV.

What about My Aspirations?
expand

We believe that matching people with the right opportunity should also be based on aspirations. This is why we ask you few personal questions to refine the match. Be honest, specific but not too restrictive to create more opportunities in the future.

What are transferable skills?
expand

Transferable skills simply describe the tasks and processes that you have knowledge or mastery in and that are independent from your job type or job sector. They reflect skills that can be "transferred" from one job or sector to another.

We believe that transferable skills are relevant because in the future of work many people will constantly need to adapt, readjust and re-shape their skills to take new opportunities. Transferable skills provide a good overview of your capabilities, the foundation of your "know-how".

What are expertises?
expand

In the Expertise section you can define more easily your specific field of experience, whatever makes you a real specialist at something.

Example: you are a top developer. You can choose "coding" in your transferable skills and it describes already what you can do and what you can build on in the future, but as an Expertise you might provide details such as "Python", API Rest" or "Django". If in parallel, in your private life you are a fantastic chef or you have built your house yourself, you can add “manage teams on site”, "prepare food" or "diy".

What are archetypes?
expand

We have created 22 universal symbols that represent a particular person through an array of behaviours and personality traits. They can help understand people's strength and personality and for some recruiters it helps finding a good fit with a company culture or within a team.

Once your prodile accumulates enough feedback we will suggest archetypes that might best represent you and others will help you define the most suited archetypes that represent you. You can display the archetype you want in your profile. A tick will however be added if your choice matches what others more generally are thinking of you. Details of most voted archetypes are available in the talent card.

FEEDBACK PROCESS
How can I leave a feedback?
expand

1) You can be invited by someone to leave feedback.

2) You can also search for an existing fairception member you know and leave feedback.

3) If the person is not yet on fairception you can leave him/her a feedback.. That person will be notified that feedback are being accumulated but not processed and can later on decide to activate his/her fairception account. Once 3 feedback are received, the person will start seeing aggregated data about him/herself.

What do I need to do when I leave a feedback?
expand

Key rule: be honest to keep credibility in the system.

We will ask for your relationship with the person.

You will then be asked to rank the soft skills of that person. Pay attention to the Top 6 soft skills i.e. those that you have seen most in that person. Selecting the right bottom skills - those the least visible with the person - can provide useful information to the person. The middle section "other skills" section is a bucket that does not need ranking.

Then you will quickly identify among the transferable skills selected by the person those which were most visible to you, where the person has an edge.

You will finish the feedback process with a multiple choice questionnaire about the person's key markers.

Are feedback totally anonymous?
expand

Yes. To us it is the cornerstone of authentic feedback. Any user sees aggregated data from at least 3 feedback received.

Remember we essentially ask about the strengths of a person, there wouldn't be any wrong or right answer to be ashamed of anyway.

Can you eliminate bias?
expand

Since feedback shared on fairception are related to human relationships, with personal judgement and depending on circumstances, we believe that bias, positive or negative, can never be eliminated but they can be reduced or their impact minimized as much as possible, which we try to do. In general, any attempt to skew the results could strongly impact your fairception profile credibility.

What about bias?
expand

We have specifically developed fairception to limit bias and we work and learn daily to optimise this very important feature.

Why it's reliable?
expand

Unlike CVs, fairception is not based on a solely self-declarative approach that can introduce lots of bias. We believe in the power of feedback from a large number of people to generate reliable information.

Our approach is based on ranking not rating. It is easy to identify the top strengths of a person and relative strengths is all that matters.

Anyone can contribute, panel is wide. It is also not limited to the professional life, feedback from family, friends or relatives are also important, your strengths are life-strengths!

Anonymity helps honesty: No other incentive than helping the person knowing sim/herself better.

MY SPACE / MY STATS
How to build a solid profile?
expand

Just be authentic and honest with yourself and others.

Why do I need at least 3 feedback to start seeing data?
expand

Our studies & tests have shown that feedback by less than 3 people is not sufficient to start revealing the key traits of a person.

Also with at least 3 feedback it is not possible to guess the content of individual feedback received. It preserves anonymity through data aggregation.

The greater the number of feedback by credible contributors the more reliable the outcome will be.

What information do I see about myself?
expand

You will see more information when your transparency score increases. Ultimately you will see your TOP 8 and your BOTTOM 3 soft skills with associated stats, including where you stand on each soft skill in a particular community.

You will see how people evaluate your transferable skill or expertise or how they perceive your archetype or your secret soft skills!

What is the leader board?
expand

The most active persons and those with the most recognized soft skills in fairception are shown in this list. In your personal space you will discover where you appear in this list. Ranking will constantly evolve as fairception members' activity is going on and will enable you to benchmark yourself.

What if I receive several feedback from the same person?
expand

The algorithm manages multiple feedback from the same person and ensures the statistics are not biased by repeat feedback.

What if I or my friend create several profiles to boost my profile?
expand

You cannot really boost your soft skills profile. You have a set of skills that makes you unique. Since there is no score to have nor best combo to target. The best score is a combo that looks like you. Therefore, just be proud of your real own Top 6!

One of the reasons we have introduced the transparency score is to reflect the credibility of a profile that leaves a feedback. Keep in mind also that our debias mechanism could spot unethical behaviors or unusual activities which will in turn impact bad actors' credibility accordingly.

Why target 20 reviews?
expand

Along with a quantification of soft skills we associate a level of confidence for each score. Simply because your profile cannot trigger consensus among a various set of people and this is normal. Our tests have shown that the level of confidence is greatly increased above 11 feedback, while 20 feedback is a nice number to target for a balanced, credible profile.

Why my skills rating and associated stats are evolving even when I don't get new feedback?
expand

The content of the feedback you received is important but the credibility / authority of the person who left you the feedback is an important criterion too. And that credibility factor or relevance to your feedback evolves over time.
